Compiling Information: Euro Bike Tour 2010!

Dear Potential Cycling Friends,

Ahhh! There is so much information. I hope you love to read about bike routes as much as I do! Here are some links to get some ideas flowing. If these don't wet your appetite, I don't know what will...

Someone's cyclo-touring blog. Obviously has a lot of experience and pointed me in the direction of the Germany Tourism site. Thanks!

A comprehensive list of bicycle routes through Germany! This tourist site is fairly amazing... interactive maps and all. I think I am going to have to play around on this site sometime soon.

Per usual - Sheldon Brown has something to say on the subject (RIP.) Thanks Sheldon!

Bikes on the Brain.

My fall semester here in Bellingham, WA has started and everything is in full swing once again. However, rather than focusing intently on the interconnectedness of environmental systems or plunging head first into water resource rights (both subjects I find fascinating), I am constantly day dreaming. About what? You might ask. I hope you will ask. Nothing more than Boys and Bicycles. I am planning the beginning of the rest of my life. Meaning that after celebrating my one year anniversary here in the lovely town of Bellingham I finally dare to look a year ahead.

Just this morning I turned in my application to Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University. With my acceptance I will we able to take all the necessary classes to graduate in the next twelve months or so. Between now and then, I look forward to another ski season at Mt. Baker, acquiring avalanche skills, planning bicycle trips and stalking all the great kids at the Hub, and filling out another application so that I may take part in the Polaris Project. If I am selected to be part of this lucky group I will get to travel to the Siberian arctic next Summer (2010).

My "secret" plan is to fly in and out of a European city with my bicycle and touring gear. If I can stash my things there during my month of research in Russia, then I can do a Euro Bike Tour afterwards! I would like to start or finish in Germany. I would have approximately 5 weeks to spend pedaling around, which is plenty of time to see about as much of Europe as you want, depending on your ambitions. I would like to go through a part of Portugal, Spain, France, and Germany. I hope to be in good company and I am open to discussing a variety of route choices. I sit in hard plastic chairs all day and let my brain play with the possibilities.

And it's only October...
